Parks and Recreation

Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide recreation activities to the citizens of Vermillion. To provide recreation that is wholesome, safe, educational, and available to all individuals, including youth, adult, senior citizens, and persons with special needs.

Park Facilities
The Department of Parks, Recreation and Golf currently maintains 135 acres of park land and right-of-ways, provides recreational facilities and programs available to all residents, and manages the Bluffs Golf Course. The following facilities are the major parks and some of the opportunities that exist at each facility.

Prentis Park
Located between Main and Clark Streets on Plum Street is comprised of 19.4 acres. The park has a newly renovated swimming pool with a 110’ water slide, lighted basketball courts, lighted horseshoes, lighted shuffleboard, picnic shelters, restrooms, playground areas, lighted volleyball courts, lighted baseball field, practice softball field, and a band shell.

Cotton Park
Located on the southern end of Dakota Street next to the Vermillion River is comprised of 30 acres. The park provides playground areas, a soccer field, picnic shelter, restrooms, scenic bridge and hiking trails, a bike path along the river, and natural grasslands.

Lion’s Park
Located between Princeton and High Streets south of Cherry Street is comprised of 17.32 acres. The park provides playground areas, lighted softball fields, picnic shelter, restrooms, camping facilities with electricity and sewage dumpsite, and the armory/community center which includes air conditioned classrooms, kitchen, tiled gym floor with basketball courts, volleyball court, and restrooms with showers. The Recreation Department also has offices at the armory/community center. Barstow Park
Located at Carr and Cherry Streets is comprised of 19.39 acres. The park provides soccer fields, football fields, lighted tennis courts, lighted softball fields, picnic shelters, playground areas, ice rink and warming house, restrooms, and fitness course.

The Bluffs Golf Course

Located on East Main Street is comprised of 220 acres. What was once farmland on the southeast corner of Vermillion is now an 18-hole multilevel golf course with a beautifully constructed residential area on the fairways.

Dedicated in the Spring of 1996, the 18-hole public golf course provides four sets of tee boxes on each hole, ten acres of reflecting lakes, eight acres of wetlands, full-service pro shop, driving range, practice greens, short order grill, golf instruction, reservation up to seven days in advance for tee times, and beautiful lots for sale.
