In 1984, the Arbor Day Foundation named the City of Vermillion a Tree City USA community in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. Vermillion achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
We are pleased to announce that this year will be the 34th year in a row that the City has upheld these principled standards! The Parks and Recreation Department Director, Jim Goblirsch, has announced that the City’s Tree Board will again this year be offering a limited number of trees for $25 for homeowners to plant.
Cleaner air, improved storm water management, energy savings, and increased property values and commercial activity are among the many benefits enjoyed by Tree City USA communities. So keeping this in mind, and in the everlasting spirit of Arbor Day, please join us at Prentis Park on the 26th and be a part of the continued enhancement of our beloved community!
