Council Approves First Reading of Ordinance 1423: Emerald Ash Borer

The City Council has approved the first reading of Ordinance 1423 to address the Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive beetle, when it is detected in or near the community. The second reading and implementation of the ordinance will not take place until the SD Department of Agriculture has determined that the Emerald Ash Borer is within 30 miles of Vermillion.

Adopting the first reading of the Ordinance at this time allows the public with an opportunity to become familiar with measures to address the Emerald Ash Borer in the future and provide for a quicker implementation of these measures when needed. If you have questions about the City’s mitigation efforts to address the Emerald Ash Borer, please contact a City Tree Specialist:

  • Jim Goblirsch, Parks & Recreation Director at 605-677-7081, or
  • Pete Jahn, Street Superintendent at 605-677-7078.
